Adding Essential Oils To Your Bath Or Shower

Who doesn't love the idea of soaking in a warm bath or enjoying a nice hot shower after a long day?

What if you could amplify this experience by adding some simple ingredients to the bottom of your bath or shower? Truth be told, it is easier than you think.

For starters, Epsom salts are believed to be an excellent addition to wellness support.* I have found that when soaking in Epsom salt diluted with warm water, both my muscles and my mind are able to finally relax!

Besides Epsom salts, essential oils can provide either a relaxing or uplifting experience to your bath or shower depending on what oils you use.

Best Ways To Essential Oils In The Tub

For years I believed the only way that you could use the essential oils was placed directly into a bathtub of water. It was only later that I realized that you can add them to the foot of your shower and allow the steam to diffuse the aroma of the oils.

I love including uplifting oils in the morning with Lemon, Peppermint, or Eucalyptus essential oil. At night, I enjoy Lavender or Peace & Calming in my bath salts during my shower. Here are my personal favorites for adding to a bath or shower:
  • Thieves- Supports the body's natural defense*
  • Raven- Refreshing aroma, includes the naturally occurring constituents eucalyptol, menthol, and methyl salicylate
  • Lemon- Supports detox, cleansing, and it's energizing for the morning*, contains limonene
  • Peppermint- very refreshing aroma
  • Copiabia- considered soothing, referred to as a magnifier oil to boost the benefits of other essential oils
  • Frankincense- excellent grounding and calming aroma
  • Panaway - stimulating aroma, supports the appearance of healthy skin coloration

For times when I need INCREASED relaxation, soothing, and calming are needed, I use...
  • Lavender
  • Sleepyize
  • Valor
  • White Angelica
  • Peace and Calming

Quick Tips for Bath and Shower Safety

  • Avoid putting any of the oils near your face and eyes or any areas such as cuts or scrapes.
  • Be very careful entering and exiting the tub and try not to soak for too long as a warm bath with soothing oils can potentially cause balance issues. Consult your physician first if you have cardiac or low blood pressure concerns.
  • Consider testing a small drop the oil on the skin and wait at least a day to see if any reaction occurs.
  • Do not use more than a few drops, essential oils are potent and there is no need to add more than necessary.
  • Consider diluting with a carrier oil.
  • Remember, all citrus oils are photosensitive so avoid using them if you will be exposed to sunlight soon after.
  • Consult with your physician if you have any concerns about soaking in a tub with a few drops of essential oils (pregnant women, small children, older adults, etc.)
