Cleaning Dog Ears with Essential Oils
Since I have been using essential oils for over two years, I have really learned to explore many uses for them in our home and with using them safely with our dogs. I will admit, I took my time learning about the safety precautions for using Young Living Essential Oils with my animals Each animal is very different so I recommend reading The Essential Oils Animal Reference Guide for a better understanding if you have essential oils and if you have animals in your home. Once I had resources and education, I became very comfortable with using Young Living Essential Oils and actually felt better using natural products and DIY products that are infused with essential oil than the chemical based products we used in the past. After Learning about Young Living and the Seed to Seal promise, I will not use any other essential oils on myself or my animals. I also have so much fun continuing to learn every day, fun new essential oil hacks that save time and money. I also love being able to share them with you! Please check out the books that I have shared with you on my supply page to help yourself learn how to use oils safely in your home.
Last week, when I was refilling my Bye Bye Makeup pads this new DIY product dawned on me, to be honest I really don’t make many DIY things but my Bye Bye Makeup pads are a necessity, I usually buy a lot of the products that Young Living has to offer, just easier for them to come in my wellness box already put together. There are a few things that I do take a little bit of time to put together such as my make up pads, room sprays, and rollers! When I was putting my makeup remover pads together, this idea hit me! I thought, I can make similar pre-made cleaning pads for Kasey’s ears! It was like the biggest AH-HA moment that I have had in awhile.
Before this day, we used to make an ear spray for her and have to spray a cotton ball to wipe her ears out with and she is a Golden Retriever so I feel like we are cleaning her ears just to keep up with the yuck every other day. The ear spray is easy too, but these pads are going to make it so much more convenient to save your time and energy! I mean, busy moms and dads need things to be easier when they can, so this is just one of those times! I am so excited to share this recipe with you because of how much fun it was for me to create these for our house!
I wanted to share a quick blog post for all my fellow dog parents, and get you this easy, simple, and affordable recipe a jar of pre-made ear wipes for your dogs! And if you do not have dogs, I hope this gives you inspiration on how you can use essential oils in your home! There is literally a product of DIY product for everything and anything!
When I thought of this, I just knew these were going to be game changer for my husband and I because usually taming Kasey’s skin and ear needs is a hassle. Making these pre-made pads is just one step closer to an easier routine!
Here are the supplies that you need:
4 Ounce Glass Jar
⅓ Thayers Witch Hazel
1 Tablespoon of Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar
Organic Cotton Rounds (about 21 cotton rounds)
Optional: 1-3 Tablespoons of Hydrogen Peroxide (depending on dogs ears)
6-10 drops of Young Living Essential Oils
These measurements do not need to be exact, I used this amount for a 4 ounce glass jar that fits about 21 cotton rounds.
Here is how to put it together:
In a glass mixing bowl, add the Thayers Witch Hazel, Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar, and Essential Oils, and if you choose to use Hydrogen Peroxide add that too. Once this is blended, put the cotton rounds into the 4 ounce glass jar and slowly pour the mixture over the cotton rounds, this step takes a minute or two because you may need to push the cotton rounds down to help them absorb the mixture. You can also out a few cotton rounds in at a time and slowly pour the ear cleaning mixture over the rounds, as they absorb the blend, add more rounds to the container. I like to add my essential oils directly to my glass jar with the cotton rounds but you could also choose to add it to the mixing bowl. I like to make sure all my essential oils go into the glass jar with my DIY product.
Here are a few of the essential oils that I choose for Kasey’s ear wipes or sprays. I only select about three of them for one mixture, because sometimes too much of a good things is bad. I also change up the essential oils that I choose each time I make a new batch, which is also pretty similar when I am making my own makeup remover wipes.
