How to Make the Best "Chocolate Peppermint Mocha" Smoothie

Chocolate, Peppermint, Mocha... What a Combination!

I'm compelled to share this recipe because we mixed it up this morning and found another winner.

This is an excellent alternative to the traditional strawberry-banana routine out there!

The added Peppermint vitality is a real winner. If you do not have peppermint vitality essential oil you are going to miss out on the refreshing peppermint taste!

Chocolate Peppermint Mocha Smoothie

Ingredients:

• 2 scoops of Chocolate Protein Complete from Young Living
  • Alternate option: Grass-fed Whey, 2 scoops
    • If using Grass-fed Whey, we found a great natural Monkfruit sweeter with NO glucose and NO fructose. It tastes great too!
• Unsweetened Almond Milk
• Whole Bean Coffee - organic 
  • For those of you who do not grind your coffee, we occasionally use Peak Performance ground coffee
• 1 spoonful of Plain Whole Milk or Greek Yogurt
• 1 tablespoon Cacao powder
• 3 drops of Peppermint vitality
• Ice cubes

Directions: 

1. Using a blender, first add
   1. 8 ounces brewed black coffee
   2. 8 ounces almond milk,
2. Then combine the above ingredients
3. Blend fully, usually about 30 seconds
4. If desired, top with shredded coconut flakes​

Cacao Powder
An extra source of the chocolate flavor that contains a rich amount of antioxidant flavonoids without the sugar. ​​Cacao is differentiated from cocoa in that cacao is typically made from seeds of the Theobroma cacao tree. Cocoa is the powder made after the seeds are roasted. 

The use of cacao vs cocoa varies from brand to brand but typically it is just a matter of whether or not the seeds were roasted (cocoa) or not (cacao).

Cacao/Cocoa likely share the following properties:

• Rich in polyphenols
• Contains flavanols which are thought to enhance nitric oxide levels, thus potentially having an effect on blood pressure
• Cocoa may reduce LDL cholesterol
