How to Create the Best Beard Oil and Beard Balm for No-Shave November and Beyond!
In the essential oil community it is rare that we pay attention to the men in our lives. I am not sure why that is. Perhaps women are typically more interested in essential oils than men are. That is, until facial hair gets involved! There is a beard oil craze going on out there.
Dollar beard oils and cheap alternative are everywhere as the market craze continues. No-Shave November (or Noshavember), generates plenty of attention to facial hair. It was specifically created as a month for cancer awareness and hopes to generate awareness and attention to cancer prevention. It has been a wonderful tool that has raised millions of dollars and created another cancer conversation starter. We are very thankful that it has generated additional buzz around preventing and treating cancer. Believe it or not, most men find it difficult to grow a beard initially. The most common issue new "beard growers" face is the initial itch of the coarse facial hairs. This discomfort has created a whole category of beard hygiene (who every thought there would be such a thing). It does not end there however. For men who are committed to longer than a month's worth of growing, beard oils and beard balms are a staple to tame the wild nature of dense facial hair.
For All Those Bearded Folks Out There
Are you or a loved one preparing for "No Shave November"? Is your husband looking to help tame his long, dense, unruly beard? Does dad want to spend Thanksgiving looking like a lumberjack sprung from the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest? Maybe you are an essential oil enthusiast seeking to win over your man with oils? Look no further than "facial hair friendly" beard oils and beard balms. Please realize, not all oils and balms are created equal. Just because a company has some creative marketing ploy for dollar beard oils does not mean they should be applied to a man's face! There are health concerns of common fragrances and oils often used in these beard care products. We have covered this before but it is worth repeating. Most beard oils and balms contain synthetic based fragrance grade oils. Why is this a concern? Consider a 2011 report that stated "scented consumer goods showed the products emitted more than 100 volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including some that are classified as toxic or hazardous by federal laws.1 Even products advertised as “green,” “natural,” or “organic” emitted as many hazardous chemicals as standard ones". Further, most synthetic fragrances are derived from chemicals found on the EPA's hazardous waste list! Remember to always research your ingredients. Beards have always had varying degrees of significance for men and despite it potentially being stereotypical, it has always been a physical expression of masculinity. The primary reason for the beard's contemporary popularity is to raise cancer awareness. Allow us to examine some other reasons why men might choose to "wear" a beard. Throughout time, facial hair has been a medium for men to show a form of power, stability, strength, intimidation, and confidence. Although some might consider beards being symbolically masculine a topic of debate, facial hair seems to be trending for a myriad of reasons. Perhaps they wear a beard simply for fun. Maybe they want to irk the in-laws. Then again, some might believe it to be a method for attaining prestige. Some research seems to indicate that when it comes to beards, the more full and defined a man’s beard, the more it might correlate with increased testosterone. Whatever the reasons may be, most men desire to keep their beard well kept and groomed, especially during November. As a result of the beard craze, men are also seeking the best beard products on the market. Over the last several years with the revival of the beard, men are part of more and more masculine monthly subscriptions for beard oils, balms, cleansers, and conditioners that will support their full growth. Many of our men may not be aware that Young Living Essential Oils might just have the best beard products on the market!
Beard Care
The concept of men using natural beard oil has actually been around for ages. Many stories exist from ancient records that mention natural essential oils being used, even for beard growth. Some claim that essential oils are an excellent way to strengthen and nourish hair follicles and skin to encourage beard growth. Want to know an interesting fact that has since become somewhat laughable in our house? My husband actually started using essential oils long before I ever did!!! It’s actually a pretty funny story because even though I seem like the wife that is over-the-top with essential oils, my husband was actually first into the game. He began by researching natural remedies a long time ago to support both his body and desired beard growth before I even understood what they were. Years ago, he would concoct beard balms and essential oil recipes that I honestly detested. I truly could barely stand the smell of them when he wore them in his beard. Why am I telling you this? Because several years later, we were introduced to Young Living Essential Oils and the idea of natural living. Once we got our Young Living Starter Kit, my husband and I started to learn about the difference in grade and quality of essential oils on the market. Wow, there was no other company that stood out like Young Living and it is because of the The Seed to Seal promise. We realized how important it was to consider the differences between Young Living and the other essential oils on the market. One thing that really stood out is the fact that there are no regulations for essential oils and that for essential oils to be labeled 100% pure therapeutic essential oils the bottles only are required to have 5% purity. So that means that 95% of the other ingredients are not pure and likely not well known to you as the consumer. This is a reason to go with a company that at least considers rigorous third party testing and owns every part of the oil manufacturing process. I am not saying that Young Living is perfect, but they are certainly much better than the rest! Check out their Seed to Seal promise for more info. I can tell you that when we got our essential oils from Young Living they smelled completely different then the old essential oils my husband had from the local store. I ordered him some Young Living Essential Oils and other masculine products, immediately he and I could tell the difference and I personally loved the smell. I was not bothered by the aroma and actually quickly began to enjoy it! As a bonus, there were several recipes that my husband really enjoyed and he could immediately tell a difference with his beard.
